Welcome to Elm Class!

Spring 1

Who do these belong to?

This half term we are learning about history and finding out clues about the past, including our own past. We will be looking at artefacts and using evidence to work out what they might have been used for. We will sort items into new and old.

In Literacy we will be learning the story of "The Tiger who came to tea" for the first half of this half term. We will be having some picnic fun, doing some baking with our kitchen staff and writing an invitation to the tiger! We hope he is not too hungry! We will be sending the tiger some instructions on how to get to our school and looking at maps. In the second half, we will move onto the story of the Little Red Hen and finding out all about how to make bread.

In Maths we will be moving onto the composition of numbers as well as deepening our understanding of shape and measure. Details will be provided on Tapestry and social media so that you are able to support your child at home if you would like to.

We can't wait to share our learning with you on Tapestry. As always, please share your wonderful moments from home with us on Tapestry to share in our Monday Show and Tells.

General Information:

  • Daily equipment - Please send your child with a water bottle every day and a coat appropriate for the weather. Please could wellington boots be brought into school as we will use our outdoor area as much as possible, including when it's raining. Please apply sun cream in the morning (where needed) and send a named bottle for your child to re-apply if required.
  • PE -  with Mr Dart is on a Monday and Tuesday. Please ensure your child brings their P.E kit to school EVERY DAY. Please ensure that each item is clearly labelled.
  • Home Learning - Each week we will keep you up to date with your child's phonics group and home learning related to this. We will give you links to useful videos which you can use daily to support your child at home. We also set a little home learning task each week for you to do which will support the work we do in school. As always, we are here to provide you extra support if required.
  • Tapestry Learning Journeys - We use Tapestry online learning journeys in two ways 1) To document what your child is doing in class, whether that be whole class special moments/events or individual/group work showing what your child is doing. There will sometimes be an indication of next steps which will help you to know what you can do to support your child. We actively encourage parents/carers to comment, like and add their own observations of things that have been done at home (this can be places you've visited,  special family events, wow moments of achievement or related to home learning set). (2) As a communicative tool - To keep parents/carers informed about things they might need, latest groupings in phonics etc. It is essential that parents/carers login to Tapestry as regularly as possible to stay in the loop. We value communication with you and positive contributions which you can make towards your child's special learning journey full of wonderful memories of this milestone first year.
